ANSWER:   Answer will include that inferential statistcs are techniques that allow us to make inferences. That is, they allow us to generalize from the behavior of small groups of participants (samples) to that of larger groups they represent (population). Although a researcher would like to observe all members (the population), this is impractical and impossible. Thus, smaller cross sections called samples are selected. In order to make the sample representative of the population, the sample is chosen by random selection to ensure that every member of the population has an equal chance of being in the sample.
